Prologue
It's time to play some Warhammer! I wanted to get a couple war games in before a September Bolt Action tournament to help get my brain juices flowing in a strategic and tactical mindset. Unfortunately, due to a conflict with a annual family apple picking excursion, I will no longer be able to attend the Bolt Action tournament I was looking forward to.

So I put that out of my mind and then focused on this Warhammer game coming up! We selected this date a few weeks back and I initially planned on bringing Tau to try out the Experimental Prototype Cadre detachment again. I had fun with it the first time I played and this time I was going to try and lean into the defensive stratagems.

Then, for about a week, I decided I wanted to try and get all my Harlequins assembled to run that list instead of the Tau. I had 13 models I needed to assemble and figure out how I was going to assemble my partially painted vehicles. But, after about a week, I realized I needed to focus on getting my Bolt Action units painted for the tournament (which I soon realized I wouldn't be able to attend about a week later).

So, back to the Tau and the EPC. I need to bring nearly every model I have in order to make a 2000pt Tau list, and if the Stormsurge isn't one of those models, then I can't get to 2000pts with 10th Edition Tau. So in goes the kitchen sink! The legend's Remoras have become my Piranhas, and Shas O'Rlai is an Enforcer Commander.

Luke brought Grey Knights using the Banisher detachment. Three Grand Master Nemesis Dreadknights spook me due to their vehicle killing potential.

Using the old Leviathan deck, we drew the primary mission Purge the Foe and a simple table quarters deployment. Where's the twist and gambits? Well, the afternoon of our game, Games Workshop dropped (and when I say drop, they apparently fumbled) the Autumn 2025 dataslate. This dataslate removed twists and challenger cards from the game, and also dropped my Tau list by an additional 40 points...

Round 1
Both of us play cagey round 1. Trying not to get blown off the board by the other.

Score: 🟥3 - 🟦0

Round 2
Round 2 is when the gloves come off. Good killing potential from the Tau KO two GMNDs and pour a lot of hurt on the Grey Knights. The Enforcer and his flamer crisis team tank a lot of shots before finally falling.

Score: 🟥18 - 🟦16

Round 3
Round 3 has both of us focusing on objective plays. Some units are knocked out or traded, and decent points are scored on both sides.

Score: 🟥28 - 🟦29

Round 4
Round 4 contains my biggest screw up. I, enamored by the thought of shooting something out of line of sight, should have put more smart missiles into the lone guy sitting on the center objective, thinking that the Hammerhead, broadside, and Stormsurge could do just fine knocking him off without the need for the SMS. Well, that's how you leave a guy on one wound on the center objective, creating a huge points swing. Additionally, the Ghostkeel gets wiped off the board after a 6 dice shot with the psycannon pushes 7 wounds through even though she was -1 to hit and -1 to wound and had a 4++ save.

Score: 🟥39 - 🟦49

Round 5
Round 5 is mostly talked out. Not much I could do to catch up, scoring a max of 20 points while I would need to score 30. Game goes to the Grey Knights!
Score: 🟥59 - 🟦69
