When our little game group started playing X-Wing three years ago, my Wife, Amanda, got very into the game. She started collection Rebel Alliance due to her fondness of the Star Wars Rebels characters such as Hera. Shortly after, she also started collecting Galactic Republic. We played a couple of games together, but eventually the mental load of a full size X-Wing game became too much for our Friday night games.
We were revitalized for a bit when I came across the small 10pt games of "Flight Academy" presented on YouTube by Out of Arc gaming. OoA ran small tournaments of this miniature X-Wing format, and both Amanda and I found the format compelling for an easy to play format after we put the kids to bed.
Things died out with some major points changes in 2024, leading to more larger list games and taking some of the character customization that my Wife dearly enjoyed.
I revived the game in our house back in the winter of 2025 when I resolved to get some more war games in, and to get them in with as many different people as possible. My goal of getting 12 games in during 2025 is going well, and blogging them has been enjoyable. I've played with six different players to this point, but wanted to get Amanda on the list of opponents.
Finally, we got a game in together! A small 10pt game to get her reacquainted with the system, we played a simple mission of staying within range 1 of a center objective scores you 1VP, along with half and full points for ship KOs. I decided to play a faction I've never played before, Galactic Republic! Originally wanting to run a Naboo Starfigher, I opted instead to do a slant list of all clones (Oddball, Kickback, and Tucker). Amanda, getting back into the game, ran two A-Wings (Sabine and Derek) and an X-Wing (Thane).
Round 1
Not much happens round 1. Both A-Wings flank to attack the center.
Score: π₯0 - π¦0
Round 2
Round 2 ends with some Clone Bones in space. Kickback is KO'd after taking two proton rocket shots while Tucker is half downed as well. A fair amount of damage is pushed through onto Thane by the Torrents, adding 2 points for the knock. The I make a mistake with my V-Wing, flying it out too far for a flanking shot. Amanda also scores 1 VP for having more ships at range 1 of the objective than me.
Score: π₯2 - π¦6Round 3
The second Torrent is smoked, but so is the first A-Wing. Sabine goes down when the V-Wing launches an advanced proton torpedo into her side. +1 VP for OBJ to Amanda.
Score: π₯5 - π¦7Round 4
For the next few turns, we dance around the center objective. The V-Wing constantly arc dodging, but also staying within the objective to keep it contested. No one lands any good damage. No points are scored again until Round 8.
Score: π₯5 - π¦7Round 5
I got you now! Thane takes a huge range 1 shot into their side from the V-Wing. The evade dice come through, and it leaves the X-Wing on just 1 hull remaining.
Score: π₯5 - π¦7Round 8
We finally catch a break as Derek moves slightly too far from the objective. +1 OBJ to Alex.
Round 9
No pictures of Round 9 here, here the V-Wing has run out of options to stay near the objective. The V-Wing and the X-Wing joust, doing two damage to the V-Wing and half pointing it. For the X-Wing, the green dice hold true. The the score at 6-9, all Amanda needs to do is stay nearby that center OBJ in the next round and she'll clinch the game. We called the game at the end of Round 9 as a result.
