Project Diary: Blitzkrieg Tournament Platoon

With the upcoming local "Ungentlemanly Warfare - Recce and Raiders" Bolt Action tournament coming up, I mulled over some ideas of what I'd like to bring. The Tournament restrictions are 800pt lists, maximum armor values of 8+ (light tanks), and any artillery pieces need to be towed on to the board. I spent some time considering lists for both my US and my German forces, even considering trying to speed build the British Carrier Section I snagged last year from a guy selling it.

Two factors eventually determined the path I forged of going with an early war German force.

Factor the First - Rubicon Models: The last Bolt Action meet up I attended my US opponent brought some models made by Rubicon Models. I thought they looked really cool, especially with the upgraded stowage packs. I looked online at their selection of models, all of which were very affordably priced and, more importantly, did not have any outrageous shipping.

Factor the Second - I really wanted to build and paint a motorcycle. I'm a motorcycle enjoyer, and I've been interested in getting some motorcycle miniatures to build and paint for the past year or so. I was initially in love with the Bad Squiddo Games WRN Motorcycle Dispatch Riders as I thought they looked awesome (and I've always had a weird affection for courier services). But the British Dispatch Riders couldn't fit neatly into any British list I was thinking of, and the time it would take to get here would be too long. Oh, and they were now out of stock...

So I settled on the Germans. A recce platoon where everything is mounted in transports and there is an armored car and the all-important motorcycle machine gunner. Going early war to fit in with the Blitz idea, I purchased an Sd. kfz 222 and a BMW from Rubicon Models and built them up in a few nights. I also picked up some of the new plastic Blitzkrieg special weapons teams from Amazon to add an anti-tank rifle and a light mortar to the mix.

Rather than do a post with updates, I'll just post the final timeline in one string.
